Many Projects

The tendency to have many projects on the go, is this a fibre artist tendency, an artist tendency, or a human tendency?

Personally, I always have two or three projects on the go at once and most of the people I know (who are fibre artists) are the same. The projects I generally have on the go are a weaving, a simple embroidery piece, and a more complex embroidery piece. Admittedly, there is generally a UFO (Un-Finished Object) or two hanging about too.

Here is what I have on the go at the moment.

#1 Variegated Silk/Chenile

#2 Hand Dyed Mohair

#3 ?....

There have been a few .... hiccups involved in these scarves which I plan to talk about at some point. Most likely after I get them off the loom so that I can include what the final result is.

Complex Embroidery
My sister is currently expecting and for her babies' (she's having twins) room I want to do an embroidery for her to hang on the wall. After designing it I thought that Helen M. Stevens design style would probably work best.

Since I haven't done anything in her style before I borrowed one of her books from the local library and I'm trying to do that before I do the piece for my sister.

Simple Embroidery
I generally like to have a simple piece of embroidery on the go as well. This is something I can work on while on the train, in the car, during commercials, or when on my lunch break. Something simple which doesn't require a lot of concentration.

I recently discovered a cross stitch book which had patterns based on Ed Hardy's designs. Now I'm not a huge fan of skulls and knives and those didn't really appeal but there are some beautiful butterfly and bird patterns in it as well.

So that is what I have on the go at the moment.

The Very First Post

Ah, the initial post in a new blog. It's always a challenge. Do you write some sort of introduction, or do you just jump right in with both feet?

I intend to blog here about weaving, and dyeing. Embroidery will more than likely sneak in as well here and there. The focus will be on the fibres involved though I imagine some of the techniques will come in as well.

I love taking photos of what I'm working on so there will be lots of photos to go along with everything.

I look forward to sharing my experiences with you and hearing about your own.

Best Wishes
